Walter Renner (born March 16, 1946 in Bludenz ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and lawyer. From 1979 to 1981 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

After attending elementary school, Renner switched to the Stella Matutina grammar school in Feldkirchen in 1956. He then attended the Federal High School in Bregenz from 1959 to 1964, where he passed his Matura in 1964. He then studied law at the University of Innsbruck from 1964 to 1969 and received his doctorate in law (Dr. jur.) In 1969. Renner spent his legal practice in Innsbruck between 1969 and 1971, after which he was employed as a trainee lawyer in Innsbruck from 1971 to 1972. In 1972 he became the owner and managing director of the real estate company "Intermobilia" and from June 1976 worked as an employee in a law firm in Innsbruck.

Politics and functions

Renner was a party member of the Austrian People's Party and the Young People's Party , where he held the position of regional chairman of the young ÖVP Vorarlberg from 1976 to 1980 and from 1973 was the local chairman of the young ÖVP Dornbirn. Within the party, he was also a member of the state party presidium of the ÖVP Vorarlberg from 1976 to 1980 and a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg from 1976 to 1981. In local politics he was a member of the Dornbirn city council from 1975 to 1980. As a member of the constituency of Dornbirn , he represented the ÖVP in the Vorarlberg state parliament from November 6, 1979, where he was a member of the control committee, member of the agricultural committee, member of the social policy committee and chairman of the energy policy committee.

After Renner faked a swimming accident in the Mediterranean after the bankruptcy of his real estate company in September 1981, he lived under a false name in New Zealand . He was excluded from the ÖVP on November 16, 1981, and his mandate in the state parliament was revoked on December 14, 1981. Renner had to serve several years in prison after his arrest and conviction for serious fraud and negligent krida.

Private

Renner was born the son of the physician Bruno Renner and his wife Sieglinde. He married Christine Schmollgruber and had four children between 1971 and 1976.
