Wan Gang (2011)

Wan Gang ( Chinese 万 钢 ; born August 1, 1952 in Shanghai ) is a Chinese politician and automotive engineer. In April 2007, he was appointed Minister of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China .

Career

Wan Gang studied Experimental Mechanics at Tongji University in Shanghai, where he taught mathematics and mechanics from 1981. In 1985 he came to Germany to study drive technology at the TU Clausthal . In 1990 he received his doctorate on "Hybrid measurement methods for the investigation of dynamic stress states" at the Institute for Mechanical Engineering. From 1991 he held leading positions in research and development at Audi until he decided to return to China in 2000. There he set up a research institute for the development of hydrogen technology and electric vehicles at Tongji University . From July 2004 to August 2007 he was President of Tongji University.

Political activity

Wan Gang is a member and vice chairman of the Zhi Gong Party . He has been the first minister in China to be a member of a bloc party rather than the Communist Party in 35 years .

aims

Wan hoped to produce 10,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles annually in Shanghai from 2012 onwards, which are suitable for both public transport and private users.

Honors in Germany

In August 2005 he was honored with the Lower Saxony Cross of Merit on ribbon by the then Prime Minister Christian Wulff . In October 2008 he received an honorary doctorate from the TU Berlin. He has been honorary professor at Clausthal University of Technology since April 2016 .
