Wan Hai Lines Ltd. (WHL) is a Taiwanese container liner shipping company based in Taipei .
history
The shipping company was founded on February 24, 1965. After initially using a used Liberty ship to mainly transport logs between Taiwan, Japan and other ports in Southeast Asia, it began setting up its first container service from Taiwan to Japan in 1976 . In the following decades Wan Hai developed into one of the larger container shipping companies in Asia.

In 2004, Wan Hai deployed a fleet of 66 ships with around 90,000 TEU on 20 lines with 43 ports of call in Taiwan, the Japanese areas of Canton and Kansai, South Korea, the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam , Burma, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East. Since April 2010, Wan Hai has also been serving Northern Europe in cooperation with the Singaporean shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL). The managed WAN shark ships are predominantly owned by subsidiaries, with a further part of the ships used being chartered.
