The Singaporean shipping company Pacific International Lines (Private) Limited (PIL) is one of the 20 largest container shipping companies worldwide.

history

The shipping company was founded in 1967 by Chang Yun Chung (YC Chang). PIL started out with coastal shipping on a small scale and set up liner services from Singapore to the ports of Southeast Asia . In the decades that followed, the shipping company expanded its container line network from Asia to Europe and the Black Sea , Canada , the Indian subcontinent , the Red Sea and Persian Gulf , east , west and South Africa , Australia , New Zealand and the east coast of South America . The shipping company maintains extensive feeder services between the most important ports in Southeast Asia, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian east coast . In addition, the company diversified into the business areas of container manufacture and depots, forwarding services , as well as shipbuilding advice and repairs .

To this day, Pacific International Lines is a family-run company. In 2004 sales of 1.7 billion US dollars were achieved. In April 2009, the shipping company operated over 100 of its own and chartered container ships with a capacity of 183,000 TEU . Another 18 new ships with 63,000 container spaces are to be put into service by September 2011. PIL owns and operates around 350,000 TEU containers.
