Migration Office

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Migration Office was an authority of the Austrian State Office for Interior and Culture during the first Republic of Austria . It existed from February 5, 1920 to 1938 and was dedicated to advising Austrian emigrants . The aim was to alleviate the depressing mass unemployment during the global economic crisis through targeted and sponsored emigration. Until the end of 1933 it was headed by Ministerialrat Heinrich Montel and, after his retirement , by Emil Komers. From 1923 to 1925, Anton Retschek headed the information center of the Migration Office. After 1938, the National Socialists started a repatriation operation, which was not very successful, but even turned into a general movement of refugees.
