Wang Shugang

Wang Shugang , ( Chinese  王书刚 ; * 1960 in Beijing ) is a contemporary Chinese artist. In 1989 he went to Germany , where he lived in the Ruhr area for a good 10 years . In 2000 he returned to Beijing, where he lives with his German wife and a daughter.

Live and act

Wang Shugang studied sculpture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). After graduating in 1985, he was assigned to the State City Planning Office, which he left after a year to work as a freelance artist.

Since 1991, Wang Shugang's works can be seen regularly in solo exhibitions in Germany and China, individual pieces have been shown in group exhibitions and the like. a. can also be seen in Switzerland, the USA, Canada, Serbia, Croatia and Italy. His statues, almost exclusively stylized images of people, are consistently kept in three colors: red, white and bronze. Typical for the work of Wang Shugang are the red "sweeping monks" and the "crouching" ones. His most important gallery owner in Germany is Alexander Ochs in Berlin .

His current works circle u. a. on the subject of loneliness / cohesion.
