The coat of arms of the city of Opole consists of a blue shield with two half gold heraldic figures and an upper coat of arms .
description
The city's coat of arms shows half a golden eagle on the right and half a golden clover-leaf cross (Lazarus cross) leaning against it on the left.
Above the coat of arms a golden five-pointed crown as an upper coat of arms.
meaning
The golden eagle represents the Upper Silesian eagle. The trefoil cross refers to the Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross in Opole, which received a piece of the cross of Christ , the Holy Cross.
history
A seal from the 13th century contains the oldest known representation of the Opole city arms. In a seal from 1752, the eagle and cross were mirrored. At the beginning of the 20th century the coat of arms had a five-tower wall crown as the upper coat of arms.
Old seal mark with twisted symbols and straight-armed paw cross instead of clover leaf cross
The coat of arms as jewelry
The coat of arms is on some buildings as jewelry, u. a. at the Pfennigbrücke , at the main station and on the facade of the town hall . There is a modern, colorless, stylized coat of arms and a colored coat of arms at the town hall.
Since January 2011 the Museum of Opole Silesia has owned a hand-painted spoon from the period before 1945 with a picture of the old government building of Opole on the spoon and the coat of arms on the stick.
