List of train stations in Poland |
The Opole Główne Railway Station (German: Oppeln Hauptbahnhof ) is the largest railway station in the city of Opole in Poland . It is one of the largest and most important train stations in Opole Voivodeship . It is located on Bahnhofsplatz in the direct vicinity of the main post office building in Opole .
history
The first rail connection in Opole was opened on May 29, 1843 and ran from Opole to Breslau . However, this route initially ended in the Opole suburb of Sczepanowitz , as there was still no suitable bridge over the Oder . From 1844 the railways between Breslau and Opole ran three times a day. After a bridge was built over the river in 1845, the railway reached the current location of the station. This was right outside the city in the middle of fields.
The first station building was built around 1860. The current building dates from 1899; the facade combines several different architectural styles . In the interior, the counter hall has been preserved in its original form.
