BW The Opole Wschodnie station [ ɔˈpɔlɛ ˈfsxɔdɲiɛ ] ( German  Oppeln Ost or Oppeln Ostbahnhof ) is a train station in the city of Opole ( Opole ) at kilometer 6.386 on the Opole – Wrocław railway line . In the station, a connecting curve joins the railway line from Opole main station . A branch line runs from the station west to the facilities of the cement factory Cementownia Odra, which is located near the Oder , as well as to the small port and south to the former Reichsbahn repair shop in Opole , on the site of which there are now commercial enterprises with siding.

history

The station was opened with the railway line from Opole to Breslau on October 1, 1909 by the Prussian state railways under the name Oppeln Ost . At the same time, the branch line to the cement works that branched off at the station went into operation. The attached bridge structure was renewed in 1926.

In 1945 the station, now in Poland , became the arrival station for the Poles who were resettled and expelled from the east of Poland annexed by the Soviet Union (see repatriation in Poland after the Second World War ).

Today the station is only served by a few passenger trains every day, the station building is in poor condition. The city of Opole plans to develop the station into one of three urban transport hubs next to the main and western stations, for which a total of 29 million zlotys are to be invested, although the benefits of this project are controversial.
