The Opole – Wrocław railway (Opole – Wroclaw) is a largely double-track and continuously electrified railway line in the Polish Voivodeships of Opole and Lower Silesia .

Course and condition

Jelcz-Laskowice Railway Station (July 2016)

The route begins at the station Opole Groszowice (Groschowitz) on the railway Bytom-Wroclaw , which is also the end point of the railway line Kedzierzyn-Kozle-Opole , the railway lines crosses tarnowskie gory-Opole and Opole-Jełowa and runs north-west across the station Opole Wschodnie (Oppeln East; km 6.386), where a connecting curve from the main train station meets and the branch line to the port begins, and Czarnowąsy (Czarnowanz / Klosterbrück; km 11.688) with a short branch line to a power station to Jelcz-Laskowice (Laskowitz-Beckern / Markstädt; km 67.379 ). From there it runs westward via the Jelcz Miłoszyce stop (Melschwitz / Fifthichen; km 70.261) with the associated junction where the Jelcz Miloszyce – Wrocław Osobowice railway begins, the Oder and Siechnice (Tschechnitz / Kraftborn; km 82.380) to Wrocław Brochów (Brockau ; km 85,574) on the Bytom – Wrocław railway line . The first section, Opole Groszowice – Opole Wschodnie, is not served by passenger traffic.

The line is electrified throughout and was previously double-tracked, but from Czernica Wrocławska (Tschirne / Großbrück; km 75.496) the second track is no longer in operation.

The maximum permissible speed also varies depending on the track and is mostly seventy to one hundred and twenty kilometers per hour for passenger trains. The section from kilometer 4.900 to kilometer 6.500 (20 km / h on both tracks), the section from kilometer 15.450 and kilometer 19.500 (30 km / h on one track, 60 km / h on the other) are slower to drive on. that from 19.500 kilometers to 23.600 kilometers (70-80 km / h and 60 km / h) and from 29.230 kilometers to 34.747 kilometers (forty and eighty), from 48.680 kilometers to 53,000 kilometers (seventy and forty) and that from kilometer 53,000 to kilometer 69.668 (ninety and twenty). Freight trains are also allowed to travel twenty to one hundred and twenty kilometers per hour, but tend to be less fast than passenger trains.

history

The entire length of the line was opened on October 1, 1909 as the Prussian state railway. From 1922 to 1945 the line was double-track and has been again since 1959 (from Jelcz Miłoszyce) to 1987 (from Opole Groszowice), but there is no second track after Czernica Wrocławska.

Until June 30, 1987 the section Biskupice Oławskie - Jelcz Miłoszyce was electrified by the Polish State Railways , to which the line has belonged since the end of the Second World War , together with the line to Wrocław Sołtysowice , until November 28, 1987 the Jelcz Miłosyzce section –Wrocław Brochów, until December 28, 1987 Opole – Popielów and the remaining section Popielów – Biskupice Oławskie until June 25, 1988.

Two pairs of trains run between Opole Główne and Jelcz-Laskowice from Monday to Friday. Numerous pairs of trains run between Jelcz-Laskowice and Wroclaw.
