The coat of arms of the city of Feldkirch

The coat of arms of the city of Feldkirch goes back to the medieval Montfort family, who provided the Counts of Feldkirch .

history

The coat of arms has been in use since the Middle Ages. It was awarded by the Counts of Montfort, who ruled Feldkirch for a long time, developed a lively construction activity that still shapes the city today, and under whom the town charter was awarded. It is still in use today in a stylized form.

description

Also Montfort side lines, such as those used by Werdenberg , black church flags

The Feldkirch coat of arms shows a church flag in black on a silver shield. The church flag has three equally wide fringed bibs, of which the middle one is longer, and is equipped with three black rings. It is traversed by thin, parallel, horizontal, silver bars, in the upper part of two, in the bibs of three, whereby they are shifted downwards in the middle bib compared to the other two. Except for the color scheme and the fact that the Feldkirch coat of arms is more often shown with a tapered shield, it is identical to the coat of arms of the state of Vorarlberg . It corresponds to the coat of arms of the Montforters in peacetime.

Use of the coat of arms

flag

It is also often used in the flag of the city. According to the usage practice at the state and federal level, this could also be referred to as the city's service flag . For example, it is hoisted on the Schattenburg . There are also versions without a coat of arms, which means that there is a risk of confusion with other city flags such as that of Bregenz . The flag has the format 2: 3 and consists of two horizontal bars of which the upper one is black and the lower one white.
