history

The coat of arms was handed down in the seal awarded by the Waldsassen abbot Johann V in 1364 and re-established in 1966.

In the upper part of the coat of arms an abbot and a castle can be seen, which symbolizes the long membership in the Waldsassen monastery . This part comes from the seal awarded by Abbot Johann V in 1364 to grant city rights. In the lower half of the alleged city founder Turso is shown with a kind of scythe between two trees. Turso cleared an area in order to build the city on it. This illustration was used as the city's coat of arms in the 15th century.

The small coat of arms only shows the city founder Turso.
