War Child is a non-profit , international organization based in London that aims to help children in war zones.
history
The organization was founded in 1993 by filmmakers Bill Leeson and David Wilson . Their idea was to use their own celebrities to get money and attention. Decisive for the establishment was the cinematic engagement of the two in the former Yugoslavia during the war there in 1993.
In 1996 the Rock for Bosnia concert initiated by Wolf Maahn was organized for the benefit of War Child and brought in around DM 120,000. There were among others Die Fantastischen Vier , Fury in the Slaughterhouse and Fettes Brot .
War Child has offices in the Netherlands, Sweden, North America and the United Kingdom. War Child's German office opened in 2019.
The organization was awarded the Klaus J. Jacobs Awards in 2017 .
