The Red Vienna in the Karl-Marx-Hof laundromat is a permanent exhibition on the subject of Red Vienna (that is, Vienna under social democratic administration from 1919 to 1934) in the Karl-Marx-Hof , the most famous municipal building built in the 19th district , since May 1, 2010 Vienna from that time.

The exhibition comprises four areas:

  • The first room provides an overview of the history of Red Vienna, i.e. the period between the first free municipal council elections in May 1919 and the breakdown of democracy in February 1934.
  • The second area is dedicated to the topic of municipal housing .
  • In the third area, important associations from the environment of the Social Democratic Labor Party are presented.
  • The fourth exhibition area on the top floor deals with the festival culture of the Viennese labor movement .

The exhibition takes place in Vienna 19., Halteraugasse 7, in the laundry room No. 2, one of the two former communal laundry rooms of the large urban residential complex built between 1927 and 1933. There is a stop for tram line D at the junction of the alley from Heiligenstädter Straße .

The exhibition was set up by the Verein Sammlung Rotes Wien and jointly curated by Lilli Bauer and Werner T. Bauer .
