Washington Report on Middle East Affairs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Washington Report on Middle East Affairs (WRMEA) is a Washington-based foreign affairs journal dealing with the Middle East .

The WRMEA is published by the American Educational Trust (AET) founded in 1982 , which is a founding of former military personnel, ambassadors and employees of the United States Information Agency . The AET Foreign Affairs Committee included James William Fulbright and Charles H. Percy , both of whom were chairs of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations .

The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs refers in its position to the resolution 242 of the UN Security Council on the solution of the Middle East conflict . According to its own statement, it supports solutions to the problem on the basis of the United Nations Charter and “traditional American support for human rights, self-determination and fair play ”.

WRMEA estimates US direct donations to Israel from 1949 to 2006 at US $ 108 billion, including US $ 51 billion in military aid. It also lists the donations made by the pro-Israel lobby organization AIPAC to members of the legislature and examines the causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

WRMEA has been criticized by pro-Israel organizations and individuals. CAMERA describes it as "virulently anti-Israeli ", the Middle East Forum ( Middle East Quarterly ) as "bitterly anti-Zionist" and "the most conspiracy-theoretical of all anti-Israel forces". The conservative Jewish FrontPage Magazine calls WRMEA "the handbook of the Arab lobby in the US" and "specializes in defamation of Israel"; one of its authors suspects it of funding from Saudi Arabia .
