Wasp Island is an island off the north coast of South Georgia . It is located in the middle of Wirik Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after 2009 helicopters of the type Westland Wasp , which in April 1982 during the Falklands War aboard HMS Plymouth and HMS Endurance were in retaking of South Georgia by British troops in action.
