The moated castle Isserstedt is a lost moated castle on the southeast edge of the Jena district of Isserstedt in Thuringia .

history

The moated castle was given up as ancestral seat by the lords of Isserstedt, first mentioned in 1174, in 1333 and went to the Vitzthumen zu Roßla. In the course of the Saxon Fratricidal War (1446-1451) the castle was destroyed.

Todays use

Today's Burgstall still shows a hill of ruins with surrounding wall and moat remains. The castle area is surrounded by the street “Am Burggarten”, which presumably marks the moat , inside this oval area the village cemetery and some gardens were already in the 19th century.
