Water vapor permeability

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Water vapor permeability or water vapor diffusivity refers to the permeability of a coating or a paintwork for water vapor (colloquially the "breathing of a wall" ). The higher the water vapor permeability of a paint, for example, the better the wall can transport moisture to the outside or release it back inside. Appropriately trained building materials, respectively. Components are called " diffusion-open ". A high level of water vapor diffusion capacity in connection with the correct ventilation of the building can prevent the formation of mold.

Water vapor permeability, water vapor permeation or water vapor transmission are also used when it comes to the barrier properties of packaging materials, in particular plastic films. It is an important factor e.g. B. in the packaging of moisture-sensitive foods or medicines.
