painting
In the painting trade, the term painting refers to the application of paint , of paint to a surface or the result of the painting itself. The painting can have both a decorative and a protective function. The overarching technical term is coating .
Distinguishing features
The more detailed designation of the coatings is based on the intended use, the substrate to be painted or the binding agent contained in the coating.

Since November 2001, interior wall coatings according to DIN 13300 have been divided into different quality levels based on different factors.

Until November 2001, wall paints for interiors were differentiated according to the old DIN 53 778 in the following qualities:
- smudge-proof: cheap, but with the lowest adhesion to the surface.
- washable: normal waterproof quality, which is used for normally used living spaces.
- Abrasion-resistant: A mechanically resistant coating that is used for bathrooms, corridors and kitchens.
