Water attendants are people who are trained to maintain and look after water supply systems (training obligation in accordance with the guidelines of DIN 2000 Central Drinking Water Ordinance and the Food Act). The training to become a water manager usually includes basic knowledge of water abstraction, water protection, water purification, water storage and distribution. The basics of planning and materials science are also brought closer to the water station.

For unskilled workers and craftsmen from other, non-related professions, there is the possibility of being admitted to the skilled worker examination if they have worked for 6 or 7 years in a water supply company and have acquired the required knowledge through years of practical work.

The aim is to replace the water manager with trained system mechanics specializing in supply engineering. The following are recognized for this:
