Waterworks III (Hanau)
The waterworks III in Hanau - Kesselstadt was built in 1911–1912 by the architect Jean Bernges. It is operated by the Hanauer Stadtwerke .
history
The formerly independent municipality of Kesselstadt was incorporated into the city of Hanau in 1907. At the same time, two railway regiments were relocated to Hanau. As a result, the city's water consumption rose sharply and made it necessary to build a third waterworks. A suitable place with sufficient groundwater was found in the Kesselstädter Forest, on today's Burgallee .
Building
The ensemble of waterworks III is an axially symmetrical system consisting of an elongated main building, two residential buildings and two suggested “guard houses” that are grouped around the courtyard.
technology
The capacity of the two round deep tanks made of reinforced concrete is 2000 cubic meters each. There are also 13 wrought iron tanks for the filter wells with a depth of six meters. The system uses several suction gas motors and transmissions to reduce the high iron content of the water.
Partial use
In 2016, the disused coal hall became the site of an exhibition of contemporary art.
