Wat Ratchapradit (full name: Wat Ratchapradit Sathit Mahasimaram Ratcha Wora Maha Viharn, Thai : วัด ราช ประดิษฐ์ สถิต มหา สี มา ราม ราชวรวิหาร ) is a small Buddhist temple ( Wat ) in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok , the capital of Thailand . Wat Ratchapradit is a First Class Royal Temple .

Wat Ratchapradit is on Ratchini Road, north of the Saranrom Palace near the Ministry of Defense and the Grand Palace , its main entrance is on Saranrom Road. Diagonally opposite on the other bank of the Khlong Khu Mueang Derm (also: Khlong Lot ) lies Wat Ratchabopit .

  • Viharn Luang - the graceful building is both a viharn and an ubosot . It stands on a high platform covered with gray marble tiles and is also clad with marble slabs. The teak doors and shutters are covered with a double layer of wood carvings. The gilded, interwoven plant motifs stand against a background of colored glass mosaic. Above the doors and windows there are stucco decorations depicting a royal crown (mongkut) . Two marble inscriptions can be seen in a niche on the viharn. On the first inscription, King Mongkut announces that he built this temple in 1864 for the monks of the Thammayut community. The inauguration of the Bai Sema in 1865 is announced on the other inscription . The walls inside the building are covered with fine wall paintings from the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) , who had the temple restored. They depict twelve royal ceremonies over the course of a year. One picture also shows King Mongkut watching a solar eclipse.
  • Pasana chedi - the Sri Lankan style chedi is also on the platform north of the viharn and is clad with marble. It was built by King Mongkut (Rama IV) .
  • Prasat Yod Prang - on either side of the viharn there is a building with a prang with Khmer-style faces on it. They were commissioned by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) . The designer of this building is said to have designed a similarly designed mausoleum in the Royal Cemetery at Wat Ratchabopit .
    • The eastern building is the library ( Hor Trai ) of the temple. It is clad with white stucco . Episodes from the life of the Buddha are depicted in relief on the pediments above the windows and doors .
    • The western building is called "Hor Phra Chom" tower of King Chomklao , "Phra Chomklao Chaoyuhua" was another name of King Mongkut. A life-size statue of the king is placed inside the Hor Phra Chom.
  • Salas - there is an open, rectangular pavilion in all four corners of the platform.
