The Waterford & Suir Valley Heritage Railway, Co. is a museum - narrow-gauge railway with a track width of 914 mm (3 feet ) in Waterford in Ireland .

Museum railway

The Waterford & Suir Valley Railway Company is a not-for-profit association and operates a narrow-gauge railway on the former standard-gauge line from Waterford to Dungarvan, which operated from 1878 to 1987 and whose tracks were scrapped in 1991.

The route follows the River Suir and offers views of Kilmeadan Castle , Mount Congreve Gardens , Carriganore House , the fairy forest in Mossy Wood and the recently discovered Viking village near Woodstown . The journey takes about 40 minutes there and back from Sunday to Friday and 50 minutes on Saturdays, including a drive through the 40 m long Dan Donovan Tunnel and over the Suir Bridge.

Rail vehicles

The museum railway's trains are pulled by a refurbished Simplex diesel locomotive, which was previously used as a peat railway in Northern England and Scotland, at a top speed of 15 km / h. The diesel locomotive was also used in the construction of the Eurotunnel . Two partially open passenger cars can accommodate up to 90 passengers.
