Under cotton pads are understood round, oval, square or rectangular pad made of cotton , that is, from a generally loose structure of fibers with one another arise only due to the adhesion, a volume structure. Traditionally, cotton was mainly used, which was consolidated by water-jet needling. In newer generations, the consolidation takes place additionally or exclusively through thermal bonding . Melting fibers are added, which fuse to form a three-dimensional structure.

Cotton pads are mainly used for facial cleansing and for removing make-up . In this role, they have become widespread and have largely replaced the previously used cotton balls .
