Web code

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A web code is a string of characters with a few characters that is specified in some publications or online articles in order to obtain further information on an associated website after entering the code.

In contrast to a short URL service , the web code is entered in a small input field on the associated website. You will then be directed to the target page.

The world's first application was presented in autumn 2001 at the HTABE University of Applied Sciences in Bern. Pilot users were Thunersee Tourismus, the Bern Lötschberg Bahn BLS with its shipping schedule and the Schulverlag Bern. He still uses the technology as paper links for his printed school materials.

The abbreviation service developed under the name "Paperlink" was a result of the cooperation between code-it AG and HTABE.
