Wedge Tomb from Toorclogher
The Wedge Tomb of Toorclogher is located in the eponymous Town Country west of Loughrea in County Galway in Ireland . The Wedge Tomb ( German "Keilgrab" ) formerly also called wedge-shaped gallery grave , is an aisle-less, mostly undivided megalithic complex from the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age and, along with Court Tombs , Portal Tombs and Passage Tombs, is typical of the western half of Ireland.
Of the large wedge grave at Toorclogher, only the small middle capstone has been preserved in situ . The two door panels and stones of the double wall are present. The chamber was over 4 m long and 1.5 m wide, but the blackberry cover makes it difficult to see. It is on a small, possibly artificial, hill in a field. On the edge of the field there are some boulders that may have come from the Wedge Tomb. All of the smaller mound material still surrounds the grave.
