Weene is a village in East Frisia . Politically it belongs to Ostersander , a district of the municipality Ihlow in the district of Aurich .

The name of the place is generally interpreted as a consecrated place . Weene developed around the 12th century on a uninhabited space between Schirum and Ostersander on a mound at Crooked Deep erected Nikolai Church . It was the church for the villages of Westersander, Ostersander and Lübbertsfehn, which was added later, with the villages of Ihlowerhörn and Hüllenerfehn.

The village is mentioned in documents as Wene in 1420 in the Stader Copiar . in the East Frisian document book the name to Weene is handed down for 1441 . In the past few decades, Weene and Ostersander have almost merged into a seamless district. Together with Ostersander, Weene had 772 residents in October 2013.
