A wayfinding system is the name given to signage inside buildings or on streets and paths that help visitors find their way around better.

The generic term "guidance system" includes cycle path guidance systems, pedestrian guidance systems, tourist guidance systems and others.

Resources used

Means that are used in the context of signage systems are guide signs, building signs, site plans and electronic information systems . Objects that belong in the area of street furniture , such as street signs, traffic signs, house numbers etc. can also be used as a means of guidance.

Signage systems are used in retail and wholesale to guide customers to certain offers. The wayfinding system is then a tool that is used in conjunction with other marketing tools to create incentives to buy.

In smaller shops, the route is guided by the arrangement of the shelves. In larger shops, the routing can be supported by the floor covering design and the arrangement of the lighting fixtures and the ceiling design.
