The Wehlgrund in Saxon Switzerland is a right side valley of the Amselgrund , between the Bastei massif and Kleiner Gans. The romantic and natural backdrop of the Rathen rock stage is located in the rocky areas of the upper valley area, which form steep walls, and the heavily structured valley head . The valley floor is traversed by the Wehlgrundbach , which after a short course flows into the Grünbach of the Amselgrund above Niederrathen . The imposing Wehlnadel rises north of the rock stage by the geese , and the Wehltürme are nearby. From the Wehlgrund, the Rathener stairs lead up 487 steps to the bastion.
