White-breasted hedgehog

In German usage, two types of hedgehog are usually summarized as white-breasted hedgehogs or Ostigel :

• Northern white-breasted hedgehog ( Erinaceus roumanicus ), native to Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe between Poland and Russia to Western Siberia
• Southern white-breasted hedgehog ( Erinaceus concolor ), native to the Middle East and the southern Caucasus from Turkey to Israel and Iran
