Wei Guangqing

Wei Guangqing (* 1963 in Huangshi , Hubei , China ) is a Chinese painter . He became known for his series Red Wall and Made in China .

Art style

Wei Guangqing was a key member of the 85's New Wave Art Momement . In the 1990s he became a member of the politically oriented pop artist. His works have a flat and symbolic composition that is a reference to traditional ethics and modern culture. Red Wall is a symbolic work that uses traditional wood carving illustrations and stories to refer to ancient values. By using the visual language of comics, Wei Guangqing refers to the contrast between tradition and modernity. Its color palette contains strong complementary colors. The artist creates a historical-ethnic pop with regional significance.
