Weidegut (municipality of Katsdorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Weidegut is a village in the municipality of Katsdorf in Upper Austria . It has 195 inhabitants (January 1, 2020).

In 1930 the owners of the Grasserbauergut, the farmers Johann and Johanna Peterseil, were attacked and brutally slain with an ax. The question then arose what might happen to her court. Because her two daughters, Theresia and Cäcilia, were seriously injured and were far too young to be able to take on the work in agriculture. So a few farmers from the area bought the property and founded the Bodendorf pasture cooperative, in which the pasture was used for rearing heifers from the start. As early as 1931, 80 animals were on the pasture and as a result 57 farmers took part in the cooperative. In 1944, bombs hit a cellar on the property and killed the pasture keepers Johann and Maria Mittermayr, who left five children behind.

The Weidegut cooperative , which is run like an alpine farm, still exists today and is the lowest alpine pasture in Austria (around 350  m above sea level ). The animals remain on the estate from mid-April to the end of October. Most heifers are inseminated in summer and give birth in winter.

From the 1970s, parts of the property were dedicated as a settlement area.
