Weierstrasse-p

The Weierstrass p ( or ℘) is a stylized letter p and is used in mathematics for the Weierstrass elliptic function . The capitalized stylized P (?) is usually used for the power set . If the character is not available, the Weierstraß-p is also used.

The sign was named after the German mathematician Karl Weierstrass .

Its unicode code point is U+2118. There it was misdiagnosed as SCRIPT CAPITAL P referred. However, the Weierstraß-p is a lower case letter. The bug was not corrected in the later versions of the standard to ensure compatibility with the old version, but the alias WEIERSTRASS ELLIPTIC FUNCTION was introduced.

In TeX it is represented with \wp, in HTML with ℘.
