List of breeds of chicken |
Welsumer is a domestic chicken breed from Welsum , a district of the municipality of Olst-Wijhe in the Netherlands , which was recognized in the Netherlands in 1919. The orange color was bred in Germany and recognized in 1986. Welsumers are popular and common worldwide.
Welsumer were mainly due to very large and dark eggs with good quantitative egg production bred out. In addition, they have a good carcass and are classic dual-purpose chickens .
The animals are medium-sized and have a cylindrical body. A single comb sits on the head. The animals bred in the Netherlands are shorter and more bell-shaped than those bred in Germany.
This breed is weather-resistant and has no special requirements for keeping conditions.
Dwarf form
The dwarf Welsumers were bred in Germany, recognized in 1930 and are more common than the large form. The rooster weighs up to 1,200 g and the hen up to 1,000 g. This lays up to 160 light brown eggs per year, which now and then also have dark brown spots, with a slightly shiny shell and a weight of 45 g. Available colors: rust-partridge-colored, orange-colored and silver-colored, blue-rust-partridge-colored.
