The World Road Association (Engl. World Road Association ) is a non-profit organization , which promotes international cooperation in the field of Highway Engineering. The association was founded in 1909 under the name "Permanent International Association of Road Congresses" (PIARC). The members of the association come from around 140 countries and consist of state governments and authorities as well as individuals. The official organ is the quarterly trade journal "Routes / Roads".
Purpose and structure
The association sees itself as an international forum for issues relating to road traffic and promotes the exchange of information between its members. For this purpose, regular congresses and seminars are held and corresponding specialist publications are published.
The structure of the association consists of the following four parts:
- Council
- Steering Committee (Executive Committee)
- General Secretariat
- National Committees
