The Kiefer plant , camouflaged as Kiefer , is a former ammunition plant near Herzberg am Harz in Siebertal . It existed from spring 1941 to April 1945 and was an explosives filling station in the German Reich during the National Socialist era .

history

From 1918 to 1935 there was an artificial silk spinning mill on the factory premises before it passed into the possession of the Reich's own collecting society for Montanindustrie GmbH in June 1940 . After extensive renovation and expansion work, a filling station for explosives was operated there from spring 1941. In this subsidiary of Dynamit Nobel AG (DAG), mainly dish mines and grenades of smaller caliber were produced using liquid TNT , until they were almost completely destroyed on April 4, 1945 by a fire that caused several violent explosions. Between 1942 and the cessation of production in the spring of 1944, the plant employed between 650 and over 900 men and women, including numerous foreign workers and forced laborers .
