Werner-Alfred-Bad
The Werner-Alfred-Bad is a former swimming pool in Potsdam in the Jägervorstadt . It was named after the German aviation pioneer Werner Alfred Pietschker . The facility at Hegelallee 23 has been a health center since a complete renovation in 2009.
History of the bathhouse
Werner Alfred Pietschker's mother, Käthe Pietschker (a daughter of Werner von Siemens ), had this cleaning and public bath built for the people of Potsdam by the architect Paul Otto August Baumgarten in honor of her son who died in an accident . The public bathing establishment was opened on December 14, 1913.
Until the opening of the swimming pool on the Brauhausberg in the 1970s, the Werner-Alfred-Bad was also used for compulsory school swimming lessons.
In 1992 the swimming pool was closed and rebuilt. As a result of the controversial renovation, a monument that was unique in this form was lost, as the entire still-preserved historical facility, as well as the pool and bathing facilities, were removed. On June 4, 2005, the Werner-Alfred-Bad was reopened as a health and healing center . This now houses the active club with physiotherapy , occupational therapy and water aerobics and other options such as back training or Pilates training. as well as some doctor's offices.
The Werner-Alfred-Bad has been designed to be handicapped accessible and has wheelchair-accessible access.

The actual bathroom is an oval basin in a matching rotunda . It had 216 square meters of water. Right next to the swimming pool building is a pavilion built in 1915 that once served as a water tap. The water drinkers could sit down on high-backed benches. The pavilion was restored under monumental conditions in 2009, as it was very badly deteriorated.
