Werner Abt

Werner Abt (born May 21, 1943 in Basel ) is a former cyclist from Switzerland and Swiss cycling champion .

Athletic career

Abt began cycling in 1958. In 1962 he qualified for what was then the A-class for amateurs in Switzerland. In 1963 he had some good placements, but mostly did his service in the recruit school . He won his first national title in 1964 with his club VMC Olympia Basel and was the best Swiss in the British Milk Race with 15th place . In 1965, he won his first smaller stage race in eastern Switzerland. Abbot decided to set his professional priorities and ended his career relatively early.

Werner Abt is the older brother of Peter Abt , who was also a cyclist.

Professional

Abt completed an apprenticeship as an office machine mechanic.
