Werner Horvath (born November 13, 1949 in Linz ) is an Austrian painter .

Style and content

From the starting point of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism in the 1970s, he developed his own style of painting that went beyond that. This is inspired by an epistemological current of contemporary philosophy , constructivism .

His paintings have a strong connection to current world politics, especially to the topic of the “ clash of cultures ”. The artist takes a critical position in terms of democratic values ​​such as dialogue, tolerance and human rights.

Werner Horvath developed a lively exhibition activity at home and abroad. His work is regularly reviewed in the media and is well received by international collectors.

In addition, the artist, together with his son Patrick Horvath, made a name for himself as a collector of political art from the Congo, as well as from the Soviet Union (socialist realism). Works from the "Horvath Political Art Collection" were used for exhibition purposes and a. used by the Royal Museum for Central Africa (Tervuren, Belgium), the Kunsthaus Graz (Austria) and the Kunsthalle Tübingen (BRD). Permanent loans are in the House of European History of the European Parliament in Brussels.
