Werner Upmeier

Werner Upmeier (born January 19, 1944 in Stemmen ) is a German entrepreneur.

Life

After graduating from Schiller-Gymnasium in Hameln, he studied economics at the University of Cologne. This was followed by the diploma exam in 1967, and the doctorate to Dr. rer. pole. with Professor Schmölders in 1970. After working in the real estate industry and at the Federal Banking Supervisory Office , Werner Upmeier founded a housing construction company. After reunification, Werner Upmeier founded an ecological farm north of Berlin in the village of Brodowin .

Werner Upmeier held various honorary positions in the Protestant church. He was a board member of the Jerusalem Association for 30 years. In 1990 he founded the “Building Association Friedenskirche Potsdam”. Werner Upmeier has been a member of the FDP since 1976. From 1989 to 1998 he was both the state treasurer in Berlin and chairman of the Federal Committee on Urban Development and Housing. He was also a member of the state and federal committee for agriculture. Werner Upmeier has been a member of the Federal Association of Independent Real Estate and Housing Entrepreneurs (BFW) since 1978. After several years on the federal executive board, Werner Upmeier was chairman of the federal association from 1998–2001. He is an honorary member of the association.

In 1997, Werner Upmeier received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his church and social commitment . Werner Upmeier was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 2012 for his many years of voluntary work in the association, party and church. In 2017 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg for his services to organic farming in Brandenburg .
