Wernicke-Kleist-Leonhard

The Wernicke-Kleist-Leonhard direction or school is a classification direction in psychiatry , within which a very neurobiological understanding has always shaped the nosological and psychopathological perspective. It is probably the most differentiated descriptive psychopathology direction in Germany .

Important representatives

  • Carl Wernicke (1848–1905): Full Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology in Breslau
  • Karl Kleist (1879–1960): pupil of Carl Wernicke; from 1920 to 1950 full professor for neurology and psychiatry at the University Clinic Frankfurt / Main
  • Karl Leonhard (1904–1988), pupil of Kleist, longstanding professor at the Psychiatric and Mental Clinic of the Charité Berlin
