Westphalian series
A mixed seating arrangement or grouping of seats in which men and women or participants from two interest groups or negotiating parties sit alternately next to each other are called the Westphalian row or colorful row . This mixture of participants should have a conflict-solving and balancing effect.
In Westphalia , however, a Westphalian row is understood to mean the opposite seating arrangement, in which women and men form a separate group. The name for this division comes from the church tradition that used to be common in Westphalia, according to which men sat on one side of the nave while women sat on the other.
Nowadays this seating arrangement is usually no longer practiced in church, but can still be found at shooting festivals .
