The Westpac New Zealand Limited is a commercial bank in New Zealand , based in Auckland . It is a subsidiary of the Australian Westpac Banking Corporation through other intermediary companies and is one of six banks in New Zealand that operate a widely branched network of branches.

history

1982 merged in Australia , the Bank of New South Wales with the Commercial Bank of Australia Limited and formed the Westpac Banking Corporation . In New Zealand, the Bank of New South Wales Act 1982 completed the merger on September 17, 1982, and the new company was given the same name as Westpac Banking Corporation . The company was based in Wellington . Under the Companies Act of 1993, Westpac Banking Corporation was officially registered in New Zealand as an overseas company in 1994, albeit with a corporate address in Auckland. What happened in the intervening years is not known.

In 1996, the merged Westpac Banking Corporation with the Trust Bank of New Zealand , in accordance with the Trustee Banks Restructuring Order 1988 almost all New Zealand Savings Banks ( Sparkassen were united). The new company thus formed was named Westpac Trust . In November 2006, the name and legal form of the bank were changed again to differentiate how it was reported to be local and New Zealand. Since then the bank has been called Westpac New Zealand Limited .

The company is active in the private customer sector, serves the business segments of small and medium-sized companies and is one of the commercial banks of the New Zealand government. The branches are available as contact partners for the Westpac Investment Group for international foreign exchange and investment transactions. Westpac New Zealand Limited claims to be one of the largest full-service banks in New Zealand with 1.3 million customers (2009) . In 2009 the bank had 196 branches and nearly 500 ATMs . The online banking set up in April 2000 was used by over 566,000 customers by September 2006.

The Westpac Group in New Zealand excels in sponsorship . Named after the Westpac Stadium in Wellington , the Westpac Stadium , the Westpac Rescue Helicopters and the Sir Peter Blake Trust are just a few Sponsorship of it. The company tries to round off its image cultivation with business events and support from organizations.

In addition to Westpac New Zealand Limited, the Australian Westpac Banking Corporation runs a second banking company in New Zealand, Westpac Group Investment -NZ- Limited . Numerous other Westpac subsidiaries and holdings belong to this investment bank . Both Westpac New Zealand Limited and Westpac Group Investment -NZ- Limited are controlled directly and indirectly via Westpac Overseas Holding PTY Limited , which is based in Australia and belongs to the Westpac Group .

In addition, the Westpac Banking Corporation , registered in New Zealand, is located at the headquarters of Westpac New Zealand Limited in Auckland, although today it is a branch of the parent company in Sydney . It is currently not known what role this company still has today.

In September 2006, Westpac, New Zealand, was ordered to repay NZ $ 4.5 million to its credit card customers. Like other credit institutions, the company had not made known to its customers fees for foreign exchange transactions charged between April 17, 2002 and December 2, 2004 in accordance with the Fair Trading Act . The Commerce Commission also fined the company NZ $ 570,000.
