Competitive gymnastics

The competition gym is a gym sport , in which the combination of movement and music, and the use of hand-held devices is shown.

In contrast to rhythmic sports gymnastics, the level of performance in competitive gymnastics does not reach the top of the world. The gymnasts have the choice between compulsory exercises and freestyle exercises, in which compulsory elements must be incorporated. Competitive gymnastics is a typical sport for women, although men can practice it too.

Competition area

The competition area has a size of 13 × 13 m, with a safety distance of 2 m.

Handheld devices

The hand-held devices ball, ribbon, club, hoop and rope can be used annually. For men, it is the hand-held devices, medicine or basketball , flags or clubs, rope, as well as handholds or dumbbells.

The ball has a diameter of 18 to 20 cm and weighs (at least) 400  g . The tape has a minimum length of 5 m for 12 to 14 year old gymnasts. The older gymnasts do gymnastics with 6-meter bands. The ribbon rod is 50 to 60 cm long. The legs are between 40 and 50 cm long (depending on age) and weigh around 150 g. The tire has a diameter of 80 to 90 cm, and it must weigh at least 300 g. The length of the rope should fit the gymnast.
