She travels with the caravan of the trader Nerin, who hired her to protect himself and his caravan. None of her travel companions knows her name and thus no one knows that until recently she was a highly esteemed Sora, who provided protection at the court of a royal ruler. But a terrible mistake she made there and put the whole court in mortal danger has led Valerin, who from now on doubts her own abilities, left the royal court and now offers her services for little wages. One day the caravan is threatened by exiled bandits, but the Sora is able to use her strength to scare the intruders away, which impresses her employer deeply.
