history
Who Can It Be Now? is about a withdrawn, even paranoid man who hears someone knocking on his door and wants to be quiet. The mention of a childhood friend and the bridge in the song suggest that the protagonist is mentally unstable. The new wave song features a medium tempo saxophone solo played by Greg Ham. In the form of a call and response , the title (call) and a saxophone part (response) are inserted into the chorus.
Who Can It Be Now? was released in May 1981, and became a number one hit in the United States and Israel. In the Simpsons episode I Don't Want to Know Why the Fallen Bird is singing and the movie The Thing , the song was used.
