The Wiener Park Club , abbreviated WPC, is a tennis club in the green area of ​​the Vienna Prater , which offers both competitive and hobby tennis.

In addition to hobby tennis, more than 20 tennis teams in all areas (men, women, seniors, youth, children) also do competitive sports. Members are offered various entertainment and recreational activities.

history

The Vienna Park Club was founded on October 15, 1881 at the then address "Prinzen-Allee 1". The founder was initially Archduke Otto von Habsburg , then Archduke Carl Franz Joseph, who later became Emperor Karl .

When it was founded, the club was a cycling association called the “Wiener Bicycle Club”. Only gradually were other sections added, such as the lawn tennis section, winter sports, the tournament section and the shooting guild. Later, the Wiener Park Club became today's pure tennis club.

After the fall of the monarchy, Prinzen-Allee was renamed "Rustenschacherallee", but the house number was retained. The Wiener Park Club was a tennis metropolis in Austria. He stayed that way even after the end of the Second World War . It had the image of being the most exclusive tennis club in Austria. For decades, all of Austria's Davis Cup games were held on his seats .

In the last few decades the Wiener Park Club was able to achieve Austrian or Viennese successes with some teams or individual players, such as B. Austrian club champion for women "Seniors 35+" in 2010, Viennese club champion for women and men in 2010.

Current activities

The club and some of its teams are in the top divisions in Austria and Vienna. In addition to competitive sport, hobby sport is the most important club purpose. Furthermore, an extensive youth development program is run, with which the children are motivated for hobby sport as well as for competitive sport.

Since the WPC is located in the middle of the Vienna Prater, other sports such as running, Nordic walking or cycling are also possible. In 2013 an outdoor swimming pool was built.

The governing bodies of the association are the executive board with the president as chairman and the general assembly, which is held once a year.

There are full (actively playing tennis) members, youth memberships and supporting members.
