Wiesław Wernic

Wiesław Wernic (born February 28, 1906 in Warsaw , † August 1, 1986 ) was a Polish writer.

Wernic is a writer of Wild West novels. He studied economics and journalism. He published his first short stories and novellas in 1926. In 1965 he had his breakthrough with the Wild West novel Traces of the Prairie , which was out of print within four weeks . The self-contained sequel The Sheriff of Fort Benton appeared in the following year . From 1968 onwards, some of his books were also published in German in the GDR , where they enjoyed great popularity. Since they are written in the first-person form and some similar characters appear, German readers soon referred to him as the Polish Karl May .
