Wilco (radio)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilco is a standard phrase in aeronautical radio . It is an abbreviation of 'I will comply' and means “ I understood your message and will comply with it ” ( “ I understood your last message and will act accordingly”). It is used to confirm instructions from air traffic control , provided they do not have to be read back verbatim. The latter is the case, among other things, with security-relevant clearances such as the start clearance . For wilco - unlike roger (= "understood"), for example - there is no translation into German, so the phrase wilco is also used in German-language aeronautical radio.

example

Pilot: "N131SR, cross runway 16, report ready (for departure)"
Pilot: "N131SR, crossing runway 16, wilco "
