William III. (Forez)

William III. († 1097 before Nicaea ) was a count of Lyon and Forez . He was a son of Count Artaud IV , who died around 1078/79, and the Raimonde.

Wilhelm appears for the first time in a deed of gift to the Abbey of Savigny from 1078 as Count von Forez ( Vuillelmus comes Foresii ). From 1096 he took part in the first crusade , first in the entourage of Count Raymond IV of Toulouse and then in that of Count Robert II of Flanders . In the course of this enterprise he was killed during the siege of Nicaea in the summer of 1097. He had two sons, Wilhelm IV and Eustache.
